A group of 25 Palestinian refugees arrived in Chile’s Region V city of San Felipe on Monday morning. This group of refugees, together with a group of 38 Palestinians that arrived earlier this month, are some of a total of 117 Palestinians who will arrive in Chile in the coming weeks (VT, April 7 ). The 25 refugees, 17 adults and eight children, were welcomed with a lunch and a ceremony in downtown San Felipe. Mayor Jaime Almar said they will receive a one-month Spanish course and will be living in two central neighborhoods. As refugees, the 117 Palestinians who arrive in Chile will receive a gradually decreasing monthly stipend for up to two years. They will also have access to counseling and public health services. An assistant will help the adults – among them a filmmaker, a car mechanic and a technical engineer – find jobs. The remaining Palestinian refugee families are scheduled to arrive in Chile within the coming weeks. They will settle in the Santiago boroughs of Recoleta and Ñuñoa (VT, April 7 ).
